new addition

i will be posting this little elephant in the shop in a few moments.

i have so many new fabrics that i have been wanting to use, but i have recently suffered an injury to my right hand (of course) and production has been stopped for the time being. i haven't wanted to say anything because i thought it might be a quick heal, but alas, it's been 2 weeks already. the good news is that i am on the mend, and hopefully will be able to start sewing again next week, but in the meantime, i want to post this little guy that i finished right before my accident. i think this fabric is so sweet and works really well with the elephant. i also have it in another color-way, but that will have to wait until my hand is working again.

springtime-where are you?

so, the weather network told me that it was to be sunny all day today. i woke up and had images in my mind that the day would look something like this:

but instead, we got this:

it's kind of hard to see, but it's snow. lots of snow (for vancouver). i can't even see the mountains.
what are the cherry blossoms going to think?!?

(thank you mary blair for your wonderful illustrations, images found here.)

cute

i bought this little kokeshi doll at the daiso a couple of weeks ago for only $2! (love the concept of the daiso) the dish came from there as well for, you guessed it, $2. at first i felt somewhat conflicted about buying a mass produced kokeshi, but at that price i couldn't stop myself. she's just so darn cute.

taco town!

whenever i feel guilty about eating too much (you know, like after easter when i've devoured a large bag of mini eggs, some chocolate cake and a bagful of scones) i think of this super funny clip from saturday night live. for a few years now, i have just relied on my memory of guacamolito, commemorative tote bags and the use of words like kick-butt and awesomer. now, through the miracle of the internet, i can watch it again and again and scream with him at the end. and all of a sudden i don't feel so bad about the amount of junk food i just consumed. because it will never be as bad as eating at taco town.

(sorry for the pop-up ads/comments on the clip. it was the best one i could find and i don't think i can get rid of them.)

"she comes in colors everywhere..."

"...she combs her hair, she's like a rainbow....."
she's a rainbow
the rolling stones
1967

i've been under the influence of rainbows lately. living in vancouver, i find that i get to see alot of them. double rainbows too. i saw one on the evening of my nephew's birthday, february 29th (leap year baby) and it reminded me of something. then, i was reminded again as i moved the book of paint chips on the counter (we are picking colors to freshen up our place).
oh yes, i thought, i need to arrange our books by color, like a rainbow! i loved the idea and had seen it on some blogs a while back and i feel like it was in an old issue of domino perhaps, but it struck me that i, too could do this. so i did. a mini version, in a small nook in our bedroom. i'm happy with the result. i could see this turning into an obsession though- towels, bed linens, although they are mostly shades of white and grey so that wouldn't have quite the same effect. the pantry has potential though........

happy easter!

obsessed

i can't stop listening to this. the rest of the album too, but this song in particular has struck a chord. cat power really IS the greatest.

(and a shout out to the multi-talented erin who worked on the cat power site!)

shop update on saturday

i can't believe it's mid march already. i turned around and the next thing i knew it had been weeks since i'd posted anything. oops. how did that happen? i guess little breaks are needed here and there, right?

i've been working on a couple of jobs and i've also been busy picking paint and buying fabric and cleaning out every closet we have. the spring cleaning bug has bit me-hard. we are excited to do a bit of updating to our place. it is in need of a mini face lift.

i've also been sewing up some animals with new fabrics. just a couple for now. they will be added to the shop on saturday march 15th at 9:30am PST. bright and early!
