fire in the sky

last night, as we finished our tasty bbq shrimp and corn, we noticed a few flashes in the sky. next, a loud boom of thunder. as some time passed, we thought that maybe the storm had as well.
well, it lasted for hours! this was so exciting, since in vancouver a thunder and lightning storm is not something that happens very frequently. i grabbed my camera and after about 300 shots, i found that i had snapped a few of the lightning bolts.

the aftermath was stunning. the sunset was so vibrant, so orange. there was still some storm action happening during and after the sunset, which made it feel apocalyptic.
(doesn't the one photo remind you of the wham! album cover "edge of heaven"? i loved that album.)

(PS- reminder of the shop update tomorrow morning at 9:00am PST)

oooooh you got it! wasn't that light amazing? i would love to have taken a walk (but the little one was sleeping). we really don't get storms like that here - it just went on and on and then there were fireworks - what a crazy night in the sky. it was beautiful and exciting (the storm i mean) but i can't help feeling for the folks i know in the Okanagan where forest fires from lightning storms are smoking up the valley. We're so lucky to have a lot of moisture here.
yadda yadda....good morning K! love that you caught all that.

You got such great shots! It was incredible last night, hey. I kept looking up from my dinner and being more and more in awe of the amazing colours. I've really never seen anything like it!

You managed to get some great shots! We were right in the middle of it at one point last night. Crack! It was SOOO loud. Absolutely incredible for this part of the woods. We sat watching it for almost 2 hours. Also had a double rainbow early on in the storm.

great shots, kate! your view is amazing - our photos didn't turn out so hot, so i linked my post to yours (hope that's ok!).

thanks ladies! yes, i felt pretty lucky to have the view we do and to have my camera nearby and ready.
and ella, i totally feel for the folks in the valley. i can't imagine what it must feel like to live under that threat. i hope the skies will open up soon.
